Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Character Specific "Advanced Techniques" (ATs) Volume 2

Welcome to my second edition of my Character Specific Advanced Techniques!

This time around, we'll be looking at Mario, Bowser, Samus, Pokemon Trainer, and Yoshi. Even if you don't main any of these characters, you can read on to find out what these characters are capable of and you might even consider picking one up for a Low-Tier Tournament!

Let's get started with Samus!

Samus
Z-air Platform Cancel
Did you know that you can platform cancel any moving platform by holding down and doing an aerial right when you character's feet are touching the platform? Some characters, such as Samus can do one better; she can actually Z-air (where you literally just push Z while in the air) and by pushing down can instantly cancel it on any moving platform. It's great for stopping approaches whether it be Smashville, Lylat, or Yoshi's Island, so go and give it a try!

Z-airing...through walls?
Samus has a strong edge game that is solidified by her Z-air. By planking (repeatedly grabbing the edge over and over again) you can fall after grabbing an edge, jump and then Z-air underneath the ledge to Z-air through the stage and hit opponents.

Bowser
Grab Release Options
A grab release happens when you grab a character without throwing them. When they break from the grab automatically, they escape from the ground or the air allowing Bowser to do various follow-ups (he can even infinitely grab some characters in some scenarios!).

Infinite Jump and Platform Side-B Cancelling
This one isn't strictly Bowser exclusive, but Bowser gains so much from being able to do this technique. Basically what he can do is jump infinitely without ever touching the ground. In order to do the infinite jump, jump and side-b before landing when near the ground, jump again and repeat as long as you have ground underneath you when "landing." Bowser also can get another jump from falling through a platform while using his side-b and it'll cancel the side-b in the process too if done correctly.

Mario
Cape Gliding
With Mario, if you run off an edge while using a B-move you carry the momentum of that move with you as you leave the edge. While doing this with the cape, you'll notice a signficant boost in horizontal momentum you can use for edgeguarding or for utilizing on platform stages.

Pokemon Trainer
Hydroplaning (Squirtle)
When you dash back and forth as Squirtle, you'll notice he'll slide into his shell during his turn-around. If you execute an up-smash during the animation he gets out of his shell, he'll slide really far.

Yoshi
Grab Release Chaingrabbing
Yoshi can grab release certain characters and regrab them. You can chew them during the grab and then dash grab them again on release! Here's a list of who you can chaingrab. A * indicates they can be upsmashed out of the release along with kill percentages.

Yoshi Bomb Cancelling
When Yoshi uses down-b into a slanted surface (such as Yoshi's Island), he will slide. When this is done so that he slides off a ledge, he will instantly regain control over himself once leaving the surface.

Ledge cancel Egg Toss
If you push down on the control stick while on the edge, you can throw an egg and your upwards momentum will let you grab the ledge while still throwing an egg!
